I owned this boat for several years. I sold it to a former employee of mine. He used the boat for several years and was a Member of the Kanagio Yacht Club. He told me he wanted to repower [ from 4 cylinder to 6 cylinder ] engines.
It appears from the picture that engines are the last thing on his list of projects.

Although hard to read, part of the text in the brochure says:
500 pounds of polyurethane, foamed and securely bonded up to the gunwales, provides a flotation force of over 12,000 lb - 5000 lb more than the weight of the boat. In short, the boat is almost unsinkable.
The specs claim 7000 lb for the weight of the single engine boat.

Seems a little light considering the Travelift gauges read about 14,000 lb for my 30'. (Full of 'stuff', mind you but still..)

Did all the boats get foamed to that extent?

Be nice to get a good quality scan of that brochure for the archives...

The Alcan 290 weights about 12000 lbs. and does float.
I would love this brochure.

Just bought this boat ! Hauled it back to my home on the Bay of Quinte last night from London Ont. Had a great visit with Frank, the previous owner for 30 years. He provided me with lots of old manuals and verbal information on Alcan boats. I am amazed at the high quality construction of this boat and the previous owner has kept it corrosion and dent free. As the pictures show he has already faired in any minor waves in the hull. My teenaged sons and I are looking forward to this project and are glad to have become new members of the Alcan boat family. I am an engine guy but a complete newbie to Aluminum hull construction and design. Very glad to find this site and it's wealth of information on a boat that was built when I was still in Kindergarten !
